Five Skincare Myths De-Bunked

Five Skincare Myths De-Bunked

7th Dec 2018

We’ve all been tempted to jump on the latest (and supposedly greatest) skincare trends and advice, hoping we’ll one day find a solution for all our skincare woes. Just because pop culture or your best friend claims something is tried and true, should you believe it? Not always. Thanks to the digital era, there are a ton of skincare myths in the universe. Though you can’t debunk some without knowing your personal skincare needs, reactions or even lifestyle, we’re here to help start the process. On this week’s blog, TriDerma is de-bunking five common skincare myths.

Greasy Foods Cause Acne

Rejoice, junk food lovers! Despite how many times you were told throughout your middle and high school years that greasy foods can cause your skin to break out, no studies thus far show a direct correlation between the two. However, there is one specific food group that you should consider avoiding if clear skin is your number one goal – dairy. Evidence for this myth is growing – just Google it! Again, it can all depend on your personal reaction and lifestyle choices.

Squeaky Clean Skin is the Healthiest Skin

Yes, there is such a thing as over-washing your face! While the thought of having squeaky clean skin might sound ideal, it can actually cause damage to your face. Maintaining moisturize in your skin is crucial for not only looking good but feeling good. If you struggle with greasy skin throughout the day, try oil-blotting papers or waterless cleansing wipes instead. Or, purchase an Oil-Free Moisturizer to apply before make-up.

All Skin Damage Occurs by Age 18

No matter how old we get, our skin can still be damaged, especially when exposed to the sun with no protection. Don’t fret if your skin is already showing signs of damage, though. Exfoliating around three times a week with a gentle, gritty cleanser and using moisturizers with an SPF of 30 or higher every day can help soothe and liven up sun damaged skin. That is, before and after the age of 18!

If My Make-Up Has SPF in it, I Don’t Need Sunscreen

You should always try using make-up that contains SPF, but this shouldn’t be your only layer of protection against the sun’s UV rays. Before applying make-up, add another line of defense with sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Then, apply your SPF foundation, powder and so on. Most importantly, you should wear sunscreen every day, even if it’s not sunny!

Skincare is Only for Your Face, Not Body

When was the last time you thought about the skin on the rest of your body? We’re all guilty of giving our face the most, if not all, the attention, but we need to remember to spread the love to the rest of our body too. Products like moisturizers and gentle cleansers are great to use everywhere. TriDerma’s Intense Fast Healing Cream is a non-greasy multi-purpose skin healing cream that can be used head to toe and doubles as a daily moisturizer. The cream is packed with vitamins and essential botanicals, which your whole body will thank you for.

At TriDerma, we believe in safe and effective skin healing and don’t want you to jeopardize your skin over myths. For more information on TriDerma’s maximum strength skincare products, visit www.triderma.com or contact us at info@triderma.com.
